The thing is, do these organisms do these things to compensate with their environment or do they both change with eachother?

I don't think there really is a causal relationship. They're acting together. We, however don't feel like we should be part of that action.

Yeah, its pretty steep but you're rubbing elbows with quite a few names so I assume its partly to keep it exclusive but who's to say...
