when i do the side plank, it really hurts my upper arms more than my core. am i doing this exercise wrong?

You gotta do some cardio to burn the fat. If you don't burn the fat, it will cover the abs, no matter how strong they are.

Before. That way your muscles are all ready warmed up for some good strength training.
